Services

Below is an outline of our program and the services we provide.

Our focus is on private lessons, utilizing our on-site demonstration dog, a 6-month-old puppy trained from 8 weeks of age. Her training journey began in controlled isolation and progressed to full immersion, enabling her to model desired behaviors for both reactive and non-reactive dogs effectively.

We are confident in our ability to help you and your dogs work together in a way that is both practical and enjoyable. Our reputation for excellence reflects our commitment to providing top-tier training for both humans and their canine companions.

Core Training Program Overview but not limited to;

Our training program establishes foundational obedience through the following structured modules:

1. Conditioning

We systematically introduce your dog to essential reinforcement and correction techniques:

Continuous Marking: Reinforcing desired behaviors in real-time to encourage repetition.

Terminal Marking: Signaling the conclusion of a behavior with positive reinforcement.

Positive Correction Words: Employing constructive verbal cues to redirect undesirable actions effectively.

2. Heel

We train your dog to assume and maintain a proper heel position. Techniques include using leash pressure and corrective guidance to achieve a controlled, distraction-free walk.

3. Wait to Recall

Your dog will learn to hold a “wait” position until released by name or hand signal, both in low- and high-distraction environments.

4. Stay

Training focuses on maintaining a “stay” position until your return, with progressive challenges to increase reliability amidst various distractions.

5. Place

Your dog will be conditioned to move to and remain in a designated “place” until released, reinforcing spatial control and focus.

6. Leave It

We teach your dog to ignore specified objects (e.g., food) until permitted, promoting impulse control. Training includes verbal and visual cues without the need for leash intervention, with a gradual transition to selective item retrieval.

Each command is taught with both verbal cues and hand signals, providing a comprehensive foundation for reliable, first-level obedience.

Equipment Selection and Usage

Collar selection is integral to our training process. We offer a range of options, prioritizing effectiveness, comfort, and the dog’s individual needs.

Options could include:

Martingale Collars: Providing controlled pressure while minimizing strain on the trachea and larynx.

Slip Leads: Suitable for certain breeds, though alternative equipment may better serve dogs with strong pulling tendencies.

Collars are positioned high on the neck, just behind the ears, to leverage gentle pressure-based guidance. This technique resembles acupressure and minimizes the risk of airway restriction, a common concern with traditional buckle collars when dogs pull excessively.

This high-neck position is a standard practice in professional training, including service and show dog disciplines, offering handlers precision and control.

Customization and Goals

We are committed to tailoring training methods and equipment to suit your dog’s unique temperament and your goals as a handler. Together, we will ensure the techniques and tools used are effective, humane, and conducive to long-term success.

Behavior Modification

Faithful Companions;

As a canine trainer specializing in obedience, trauma, behavioral issues, and reactivity, I regularly encounter dogs in a heightened state, often as a result of unkind actions—sometimes shaped by human hands. Working with animals is a privilege and, for most of us, a deep passion. It’s not always filled with wagging tails and cuddles; there are times when it takes months of consistent effort to see even the smallest breakthrough. But with patience, understanding, and kindness, trust can be slowly rebuilt.

Conversely, human hands also have the power to shatter the natural, unconditional love of a dog in an instant through mistreatment. It takes much less time to harm than to heal.

The loyalty and love of a dog are gifts—unquestioning and unwavering. These are treasures that should never be taken for granted. We must always remember to treat our canine companions with the kindness and respect they so freely and unfailingly give to us every day.

Always, Tracey
